FIRST 1978 DJ LETTER
Letter Indicating First Diamond Jubilee Edition Off Wixom Assembly Line
This letter from Ford Motor Company dated August 31, 1979 clarifies the first 1978 Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee off the Assembly Line at the Wixom Assembly Plant at Wixom, Michigan. The car’s original window sticker is also included for verification.

1978 Diamond Jubilee Edition Gold Tool Kit
Every 1978 Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition car came equipped with a high quality leather tool kit manufactured by the fabled Wright Tool Company for Lincoln. The kits came complete with a bulb pack, flash light and emergency flares just to name a few. The flashlight was manufactured by Bright Star Company which was the original manufacturer of flashlights. Bright Star produced flash lights still used by the U.S. Military today. The flashlight and reversible multi use screwdriver were engraved with the Diamond Jubilee Edition name.

Diamond Jubilee Edition Owners Dash Nameplate Kit
As an added touch to make the Diamond Jubilee a very personal car Lincoln provided each new owner with a custom engraved Owner’s Dash Plaque. Early production 1978 models featured a 24k gold plated dash plaque. These are very rare and collectible and not easily attainable since they are generally to believed to have been used for only the first two months of production. The more commonly used plaque is the small but elegant platinum plaque which only featured the owner’s engraved name whereas the gold plated plaque featured that and the production date of the car along with Diamond Jubilee markings. The gold plaque was about 1 inches by 3 inches long and the platinum plaque was 1/4 inch by 2 inches in length. Both came in a nice box and were delivered by mail directly from the Diamond Jubilee Dash Plaque Department of Ford Motor Company. Also included on high grade writing paper was a thank you note for your automobile purchase from Lincoln and complete installation instructions. The owner could put the plaque on himself or take it to the dealer where they would do it at no charge. A truly unique piece to any Diamond Jubilee. Click each photo below for a larger view.

Diamond Jubilee Edition Wood Insert Key Set
Not even the ignition and trunk keys were left without special touches for the 1978 Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition. Each new owner was given two sets of uncut Diamond Jubilee keys that featured wood applique inserts on both the trunk and ignition keys of each set. The owner was also given two sets of regular Lincoln star embossed key sets. The key chain depicted is not known to be specific to the Diamond Jubilee but was given to each new Lincoln owner in 1978. If the keys were lost and then found they could be put into any mailbox and they would be returned to Lincoln and then returned to the owner on file at the time of retrieval. Each Diamond Jubilee automobile came with its own color keyed Owner’s Manual Cover. Here the gold leather cover is depicted. The blue manual is depicted in the Diamond Jubilee Edition Index page. Diamond Jubilee Edition Cross Pen
A very nice silver Cross brand writing pen with a Lincoln star emblem on the pocket clip was also given to each Diamond Jubilee owner. The gold car’s pen had a gold Lincoln star emblem and the blue car had a silver emblem. There was a special holder for the pen in the rear of the leather owner’s manual cover. 1978 Diamond Jubilee and 1979 Collector’s Series Umbrella Comparison
You probably are not aware that the umbrella case designs are different for each of the Diamond Jubilee and Collector’s Series models. The blue Diamond Jubilee features a silver trimmed case and lined leather grain. The gold Diamond Jubilee has coordinating gold case trim and pebble leather grain. The 1979 Collector’s Series features silver case trim and patent leather graining. The umbrellas for all three cars are are black with silver metal trim pieces.

1978 Diamond Jubilee Edition Owner’s Manual Leather Cover
A very special best quality leather cover was provided to each new owner of the Diamond Jubilee Mark V to house their owner’s manual and other car papers. The manual cover came in two colors: Wedgewood Blue and Jubilee Gold leather. A Knirps umbrella was also included along with a leather carrying case. This very rare small print ad featuring the gold Edition Diamond Jubilee was used in small format magazines. This print ad was rare in that this is the only one that features the gold car. Normally the blue edition was featured in most media advertising. Click for closer view.

Diamond Jubilee Dash Nameplate Kit
Each customer that bought the Diamond Jubilee Edition a special engraved dash nameplate was sent to each owner. There were two nameplates during the Diamond Jubilee production run. The first was used only briefly and was a 22 k gold plated plate that measured 1 inch by 3 inches and stated “This Diamond Jubilee Edition Built Especially For”. This highly collectible plaque arrived in a nice padded box with Diamond Jubilee Edition inscribed on the box. The second plaque was much small and simpler. It was made of brushed platinum and had only the owner’s name or initials engraved. It was very small at 1/4 by 2 inches in length.
